ABOUT ME
Hello, and welcome to Light the Way Tutoring and College Planning! My name is Courtney Luna, and I have been a tutor for 9 years and a college planner for 3 years. I earned an Associates degree in Liberal Arts & Sciences from Monroe Community College and a Bachelors degree in English Writing from St. John Fisher University. I graduated from Monroe Community College and was awarded the Certificate of Achievement in Academic Excellence and was one of only ten graduates to receive the bronze medallion for my high GPA. I graduated summa cum laude from St. John Fisher University and earned the Recognition of Excellence in English award for achieving the highest GPA in the English department. I am also a member of the Phi Theta Kappa and Sigma Tau Delta (English) Honor Societies.
I am passionate about helping my tutoring students enjoy the learning process and reach their academic potential. I also love helping my college planning students learn how to effectively research colleges and potential careers in order to determine which path is the best fit for them. Whether you sign up for tutoring, college planning, or both, I look forward to working with you to achieve your academic and collegiate goals!
I began my tutoring journey by assisting fellow college students with writing, researching, editing, and citing their sources. My first student was an English major whose second language was English. She ended up excelling in her time with me and winning the Matthew Richards Prize in English.
After graduating from college, I continued to tutor middle school, high school, and college-level students in English, math, history, and study skills. I have tutored at Monroe Community College and Finger Lakes Community College as well as on my own. For the past two years, I have been a College Planner with Class 101, a national franchise that assists high school students with every facet of the college planning process. I have now launched my own business using the skills I have developed as both a tutor and a college planner. When I am not busy tutoring or college planning, I am reading a good book, writing my novel, or hanging out with my husband and cats.
